Sveinung Nygaard is from Norway and works as a professional composer, with MA in Audio Production from University of Westminster. He has composed music for world handball championship in Qatar, the TV series Freej in Dubai and has his own musical project called FLYT which explores how music can unite a mosaic of cultures. Sveinung believes in telling stories with music and connecting people.
Žofie Kašparová is a professional flute player, working in folk and jazz settings across Europe and with her band the Žofie Kašparová & The Peacock Tree. She's also an ashtanga yoga practitioner and a Buddhist in the Thai Forest Tradition. She studied in Prague, at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and at Charles University. From her teenage years she has had a passion for jazz and has explored many different music styles, including Irish and Balkan folk, gospel and improvisation.
Lisa (Yelyzaveta) Yasko is a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, representing the Servant of the People Party. She is the Head of the Ukrainian delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. She is also a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Interparliamentary Cooperation.
She was the first Ukrainian to graduate from Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, and has more than 10 years of experience of advocating Ukraine through public diplomacy projects abroad.
Cecilia de Pedro heads Sustainability at Apotek Hjärtat and led the work behind the "A Hard Pill to Swallow" campaign aimed at transforming the pharmaceutical industry.
P Niroop Reddy is a former member of India’s parliament. A renowned environmental lawyer, he fought the Patancheru Pharmaceutical pollution case against the state for 20 years and won it in 2018.
Bengt Mattson started out at Pfizer in 1994 as a research scientist in packaging development in Stockholm, Sweden. He became Manager of Environment and Risk Management in 1995. He was named Director of ESH (Environment, Safety and Health) and EMU (Engineering, Maintenance and Utilities) in 2000. Until April 2020, he was head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Affairs for Pfizer’s operations in Sweden.
Nicolai Schaaf trained as a marine ecologist and has 15 years’ experience in facilitating stakeholder dialogues and advising on policy related to climate, energy, biodiversity and water resources. Since 2013, he has led the work of the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) on water and pharmaceuticals, including research into antibiotic resistance from a water perspective.
This workshop will dive into the challenges and opportunities for sustainability in the pharmaceutical industry, in the context of COVID 19. We will draw on diverse perspectives from industry and civil society on the sustainable production and consumption of medicines. The dialogue will highlight antibiotic resistance as one of the most pressing challenges facing the world. Lastly we will touch upon technical, political and legal solutions and explore how we can use the current crisis to transform the sector by building a more transparent supply chain.
