A Geneva Peace Week Special Event

The  Kofi Annan Foundation, Geneva Graduate Institute, Caux Initiatives of Change, Geneva Peacebuilding Platform and the International School of Geneva, with the support of the Republic and State of Geneva and the City of Geneva, are pleased to announce the fourth edition of the Kofi Annan Geneva Peace Address, a high-level lecture on peace, held every year as part of Geneva Peace Week.

The 2024 Kofi Annan Geneva Peace Address: Rising Peacebuilders will be delivered by Mary Robinson, first woman President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Chair of The Elders. The event will also feature Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, Former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and President and Chief Executive Officer of the International Peace Institute.

Both will interact and debate with young peacebuilders, including Maruee Pahuja from our Creative Leadership team of young leaders on topics such as fostering social integration, achieving equality between all genders, upholding human rights and fundamental freedoms and enhancing the role of civil society.

The event will be moderated by Ahmad Fawzi, one of Kofi Annan’s former spokespersons and Communication Advisor, and will be streamed live.

The event will take place in the Ivan Pictet Auditorium at the Maison de la Paix in Geneva, Switzerland on Tuesday 14 October at 18:00 CET, as part of the Geneva Peace Week and will be live streamed.

Geneva Peace Address

Mary Robinson

Mary Robinson, is an Irish politician and human rights advocate. She was Ireland's first female president, serving from December 1990 to September 1997. Before her presidency, Robinson was a senator and a Dublin Corporation councillor. Notably, she was the first independent candidate to win the presidency without Fianna Fáil's support.

Robinson is known for her role in advancing social reforms in Ireland, including the decriminalisation of homosexuality and the legalisation of contraception and divorce. After her presidency, she served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 1997 to 2002, where she addressed issues like immigration policy and capital punishment.

Post-UN, Robinson founded Realizing Rights: the Ethical Globalization Initiative and led the Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice. She was Chancellor of the University of Dublin until 2019 and has been involved in various global human rights and environmental organizations.
