Omayma Soltani
Omayma Soltani is a 5th year Pharmacy student, living in Paris and whose parents were originally from Tunisia. She took part in the Learning to be a Peacemaker (LPM) programme in 2018. She writes: ‘I learnt a tremendous amount during the programme. It happened at a critical point in my life when I was starting to consider my role as a citizen, how my cultural background fits into that, and what strengths it gives me. To be a Muslim, hijabi, Tunisian woman in France is not easy, especially with the recurrence of terrorism that Europe has had to deal with over the last decades. LPM helped me gain more knowledge about my religion, and skills in how I can apply my ethical principles in my everyday life. Peace and justice are extremely important values for our societies and in Islam too, and this programme does a brilliant job at helping us, individually as well as collectively, find out how we can all change to bring these positive changes in our countries. To be an Assistant Coordinator for this programme is an incredible opportunity for me to give back, and I am looking forward to being a facilitator for this session in the best way possible.’
